Analysis of ââ¬ÅWhy I Love My Strict Chineses Momââ¬Â Essay
The correct way of raising a child? Sophia Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s essay ââ¬Å"Why I love my strict Chinese momâ⬠is a response to the all the negative feedback her mother had gotten for her essay ââ¬Å"Why Chinese Mothers are Superiorâ⬠. The intention of this essay is to persuade and inform the reader of why Amy Chua raised her daughter Sophia the correct way. Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s first argument is that the critics (the outsider) have no clue of what the Chua-Rubenfeld family is like (p. 2, l. 21). The fact that Chua-Rubenfeld is stating that ââ¬Å"you donââ¬â¢t know what youââ¬â¢re talking about, because you donââ¬â¢t know me and/or my familyâ⬠makes this a classical argument, which in reality is no valid argument. However, her main claim throughout the essay is supported by a strong warrant and ground. Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s main claim is that Amy Chuaââ¬â¢s strict parenting forced her to be more independent and act as an adult. The way her mother did this was by pushing her daughte r to become more successful. Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s mother taught her that creativity takes effort, which in this case is used as Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s warrant: One should always work hard and push oneââ¬â¢s self to the limit. And according to Chua-Rubenfeld this applies to everyone independent of oneââ¬â¢s goals in life. Only by forcing body and mind one can truly achieve anything. Chua-Rubenfeldââ¬â¢s ground is very much connected to her claim and warrant, because she can see how her motherââ¬â¢s upbringing of her has made her independent, and has made her pursue knowledge. This is why Chua-Rubenfeld calls her mother ââ¬Å"Tiger-momâ⬠. The tiger symbolizes a fierce and brave person and the animal itself has a very high status. These are qualities that Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld appreciates, and thanks her mother for having. The Chua-Rubenfeld way of upbringing a child appears to be completely different from what experts believe is the correct way. In Kate Loveyââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Let them eat pizza: Parenting guruââ¬â¢s recipe for bringing up childrenâ⬠the reader is introduced to a different opinion. A parenting guru Dr Bryan Caplan claims that childrenââ¬â¢s lives are ââ¬Å"shaped mostly by their genes and their own choices.â⬠(p. 5, l. 18). This article is characterized by its great use of argumentative features. Dr Bryan Caplan bases his arguments on biological research and scientifically proved facts. The appeal form used is ethos, since the reader trusts the doctor because he has a certain authority. However, the arguments that he uses do unfortunately notà appear convincing, because he only bases his ground on quantitative data. It is possible to convince someone with statistical material but it involves using an amount of qualitative data, as it explains why statistics tell us what they do. The two previous articles may seem each otherââ¬â¢s opposites, concerning the ways of raising a child. In A. S. Neillââ¬â¢s article ââ¬Å"Summerhill ââ¬â a radical approach to child rearingâ⬠he introduces another way of upbringing a child where he focuses on education. He clearly states that the important part of educating is helping the child in becoming better at what the child is good at. He supports his claim by using a lot of topological features. In the beginning of the article he incorporates a story about Nijinsky to demonstrate his point: The world will not develop geniuses if it does not spot and utilize the childââ¬â¢s talent. By incorporating a famous ballet dancer he engages the reader because the reader can hardly disagree on what Neill is saying. The reader is also engaged because education is such an important thing. Through the education one is developed. Therefore it is essential that the educational system is properly functioning. It is important to remember the function of our educational system. The future of the world depends on the teachers and the pupils, and education should prepare the children for the world. But there is a fine line between preparing and dictating. The society does not only need lawyers, doctors, and other jobs associated with high status. It is dependent on and needs cleaning ladies, police officers, engineers as well as an y other jobs. Therefore, in order to provide the world with smart and skilled people the educational system should develop the childââ¬â¢s natural talent and interests. This is also applicable when talking about the upbringing of a child. For example some kids may naturally be better at sport and the parent should thus reward and encourage the child. However, there is something called general education which should be incorporated in the learning process, because the child will probably have some difficulties in the modern society if this is ignored. Furthermore, it is necessary to teach the child how to behave in certain situations and also in general. But a lot of the upbringing of a child depends on the cultural background. Different cultures have different ways of raising children. Depending on the culture the values in the upbringing of a child may vary extremely. However, the parent should acknowledge that we live in a globalized world where the child will meetà different cultures. Ther efore the parent should prepare the child for an open mind.

Business Plan for a Trade School
BUS 435 Business Plan for a Opening a Trade School ? Table of Contents I. Executive Summary3 II. Description of the business4 III. Marketing5 IV. Research, design, and development9 V. Operations segment10 VI. Management12 VII. Financial forcasting14 VIII. Harvest strategy16 I. Executive Summary This business plan is to open a door for young adults that want to learn a trade and earn their way in life. Not all high school aged students are eager to go onto a college or a university and this can be for many reasons: perhaps they are not ready to leave home; cannot afford; they are academically challenged; not sure what they want to major in; the list can go on and on. My wish for these young adults is for them to explore what their capabilities are through learning a trade. This trade school is the only one of its kind in this county, we want to offer a variety of skill sets to the students without them having to travel far or live elsewhere. We feel that instead of the undue stress that can wreak havoc on these young adults and their families as to what to do after high school if they are not ready to attend an academic college or university, why not offer them an option of a skill that will enable them to make money and be a prelude to an academic school. Currently, what I am seeing with these young adults that are stuck on what do to with their lives, is a huge increase in drug use, crime and horrifically death. II. Description of the businessOur school would offer barrage of choices from traditional trades for the students that are good with their hands should definitely consider a skilled trade such as plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, welding, and mechanical repair. Additionally, we would offer automotive repair and service certifications, as our vehicles become more complicated and there are more and more commuters in this region, this is a great avenue to consider getting certified in. Our automobiles are not the only thing that continues to change and get upgraded, our technology is forever changing and improving as well. With that stated we will offer industrial technology and machine technology programs. Industrial technology is somewhere between a business and an engineering degree; for the most part they take care logistic and operational problems in the industrial environment. Whereas machine technology students will have the ability to build a car on an assembly line, become a machinist by operating a precision grinder and a vertical milling machine, or even computerized robotic machine. And lastly, we want to branch out and offer the artistic talent in the community the option of developing their talent, be it in interior decorating, art work, or design. III. Marketing There are two target markets that I would start my focus on for my new venture of a trade school; one being high schools, the second being the surrounding businesses that are downsizing. I would visit the schools and set up career days to inform potential stud ents of the opportunities that are available and leave literature and a website address to visit for more information as well as fill out a short survey. Also, toward the end of senior year for these students, when the teachers and counselors give information on what to expect for college and forward thinking for their children; I would arrange being at this event to provide the same information to the parents that the students received. As most parents know not all informational pamphlets make it home. This will provide the data on what type of trades if any the students are interested in and how serious the interest is by the parents. The target of large businesses is basically to try to negotiate getting the people they are letting go on board to learn a new trade as an option.I would try to get these businesses to pay for the trade school tuition as part of a severance package; depending on the length of service. So, leaving information for employees to check out the website and fill out a short survey to provide me with the interest and in what field that interest is. After obtaining the data, analyzing it and working through my reports; the next step which is just as important is the immediate follow up with each interested party. Following up on leads when they are warm is essential when the topic is fresh in memory. After these new data are obtained, the owner/manager must know how to objectively arrange, analyze, and interpret them to draw valuable conclusions,â⬠(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 137). Also offering a survey online on our website would be another way to conduct it. This can be done without costing a bundle by getting in touch with a graphics design student and hiring him/her to set up a our website that prospective students can go to and do the survey as well as learn about our school and all it has to offer.By conducting a survey sample to a small group of potential students it enabled us to gain insight as to what areas students were interested in getting their education in and if they were open to receiving knowledge of a trade school as an option for said interest. A request to participate in the survey was emailed to 5 individuals. The survey posed four questions to these recipients, as listed below. 1) What are your plans after you graduate? A. Attend community college B. Attend a university C. Work D. Other __________________ ) What career interests you and why? ______________________ 3) Are you interested in learning about our local trade school and what we offer our students? A. Yes B. No C. Maybe 4) What will the total annual costs be at the school you want to attend? A. 0. 00 ââ¬â 5,000. 00 B. 6,000 ââ¬â 15,000 C. 16,000 ââ¬â 25,000 D. 30,000 and up The first question, there were 2 respondents that chose B) to attend a university; one that chose A) community college; 1 chose A) community college and C) work; and 1 choose C) work. From the answers to this question I can surmise that 4 of the p articipants are interested in continuing their education, and possibly 3 could be interested in a trade school if it offered the programs they are interested in. The second question, 3 out of the 5 chose something in the medical profession; health practitioner; medical esthetician; and a radiology technician. 1 respondent chose computer programming; and 1 chose unsure. From this information I would say there are possibly four potential students, the health practitioner would obviously need to obtain a degree from a medical school. On the Third question, 3 out of 5 chose no, they did not want to receive information on the trade school or what it had to offer, and 2 that did. The way I posed the question might have something to do with the negative responses, as most people are turned off to receiving more junk mail, and or get signed up for something they don't want. Perhaps if I had posed the question in a more inviting manner than as matter of fact as I did; for instance, we will be hosting an open house at our facility with refreshments and would like to extend an invitation to you. That could have made it more pleasing to read and thoughtful. And lastly, 3 of the respondents chose B) 6,000 to 15,000 for annuals costs, 1 respondent chose A) 0. 00 to 5,000, and 1 respondent chose 30,000 and up. It is clear that the majority expect to pay up to 15,000 a year in costs for education. The results are not completely positive from this survey; it seems that trade schools may have a stigma. And since we haven't had a trade school of this kind in our area for decades, it is time to reeducate people on what benefits come from trade/vocational schools. There are so many young adults that are not yet sure of which direction to go, this trade school is local so it keeps the costs down by not sending the children away to college to find that they are either not ready, drop out, change their major, etc. It is just another option one that allows the student to perhaps test the waters and in the process learn a trade and apply that experience to earn and income and further their education. IV. Research, design, and development Setting up a board of trustees for this school is my next step. This board will consist of a variety of people some with experience in each of the programs we have to offer as well as education, and the fundamentals of running a school. This group will be responsible for developing processes for the daily school functions, as well as the policies and procedures for the school. Obtaining an accountant and attorney will also be important to get their expertise when it comes to the licensing, operating permits, occupancy certifications and accreditations that may be required.Additionally, assessing what equipment and materials will need to be purchased for not only the administrative area like the copier, fax machine, etc. But also for the classrooms in what their programs are automotive, welding, sewing machines, art materials, etc. Al so any costs that are related to renovating the structure will need to be included. And then there are the start up costs of the school and its daily operations that need to be taken into consideration: utilities, payroll, postage, clerical help, maintenance staff, advertising and marketing. In hiring staff I want to look to the retirement community especially people that are seasoned in the trades that we offer and with the proper training can teach. This allows our retired workers to share their knowledge in their specialized career, and stay an active member of the community. Most of these retired teachers will have their insurance already and an established income. So, the cost of providing insurance for them will be little to none. V. Operations segment The sales budget is a new businesses main budget that when finalized is the baseline budget to build other budgets off of.The cash budget is factored on what type of daily and weekly cash needs the business will need for overhead operations. It involves the maintenance of the expenses as well to know what the allotment of monies there should be for that certain duration of time. ââ¬Å"By linking the other budgets to sales, the owner/manager can adjust expenditures up or down depending on the status of operations. If sales are greater than expected, production can be raised and the number of personnel can be increased.Conversely, if sales are slower, production can be halted temporarily and some employees can be released,â⬠(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 226). The necessity of sales and cash budgeting management is crucial in my venture, knowing how many students would need to be enrolled to meet and exceed the costs to run the facility is imperative. Having the estimated sales figures and adjusting accordingly as the year progresses to see if the planning was off and if so, make the appropriate changes to the budget plan.I think the best choice for this school in the way of legal forms of business would be the Limited Liability Company (LLC). By choosing an LLC this protects me from personal liability. (In the case of injury like a resident slipping on water in the bathroom or choking on their meal, the lawyers can't go after your house. ) Also, only the amount of money you put into an LLC is at risk. LLCs have other qualities as well: they are not as complex and more flexible; they don't require a board of directors, shareholder meetings and other managerial formalities; they allow entrepreneurs to split up the profits any way they choose. With the type of facility I would like to have and under this form of business I would be able to draw in investors with offering maybe a bigger piece of the profits than their initial investment would warrant. This kind of flexibility could help raise the millions in start-up costs to open one of these facilities. ââ¬Å"The disadvantages of the LLC are relatively few. Perhaps the greatest disadvantage is that LLC statutes differ from state to s tate, and thus any firm engaged in multistate operations may face difficulties. In an attempt to promote some uniformity among the states in respect to LLC statutes, the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws drafted a uniform limited liability company statute for submission to the states to consider for adoption. Until all of the states have adopted the uniform law, however, an LLC in one state will have to check the rules in the other states in which the firm does business to ensure that it retains its limited liability,â⬠(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 115). VI. ManagementBy setting up a clearly identified strategic organizational list of goals to ensure all employees are aware and understand the vision of the organization. In setting up these goals there needs to be a measuring metrics that is specific to real data that flows within the organization and set up for each specific department. So for instance, registering new students and their demographic data would be a measurement from the administrative department, and the students grades would be a measurement from the teaching department. This process of deciding what should be measured based on the goals of the organization should be a type of value stream mapping that should include all the employees as a group. This allows for excellent input and good communications and the old open door policy adage; which in turn makes for a better work environment and higher morale. Once each goal is clearly defined and the performance standards are set, they must be monitored on a periodic basis to see if the target is being met and if not why. This also allows employees to take accountability for their functions and to understand how their duties fit into the big picture, and this can be a realization of the importance of their function as they increase the ownership of their goals. When monitoring the progress and there is a low mark in a particular category, at this point it is imperative to perform something called a Relentless Root Cause Analysis (RRCA), this is a process that we used at a former job), and was quite handy on getting results. There is also the 5-why method or the fish bone analysis, all of which are good analytical methods to find the problem and resolve it. When measurements prove positive having a type of reward for the employee or department sends a positive message to the achievers that their efforts are valued. This is an ongoing process and whether the results are positive or not from the measuring metrics should always include all the employees so they understand where the hiccups are and what needs to be done to rectify them as well as enjoy the benefits of a job well done. VII. Financial forecastingIn order to obtain the start-up capital for my trade school, I would look into many different sources starting with foundations and nonprofits that are experienced committed to underwriting educational projects. ââ¬Å"State grants help State and loc al schools offer programs to develop the academic, vocational and technical skills of students in high schools, community colleges, and regional technical centers. Funds from this program can be used for a broad range of programs, services, and activities designed to improve careerââ¬âtechnical education programs and ensure access to students who are members of populations with special needs,â⬠(ed. ov). The type of loan that would make sense for my venture is the Term Loan, and it has a maturity from 1 to 10 years, this enables me to take the time to build my business and pay back the loan over a longer period of time. I would additionally think about having a line of credit open for the just in case scenarios that can arise in a business. Seeking avenues of financing for my school will involve fundraising; this also gets our schools name out there.Write up a strategic professional business plan to present to local donors and once our school is able to start showing the su ccess rate of our students, use that data to gather more donors. Also, by getting in touch with local and national companies to determine if they will sponsor our school with supplies or funds, will help with costs. The necessity of sales and cash budgeting management is crucial in my venture, knowing how many students would need to be enrolled to meet and exceed the costs to run the facility is imperative.Having the estimated sales figures and adjusting accordingly as the year progresses to see if the planning was off and if so, make the appropriate changes to the budget plan. To set the costs for the services for the trade school, I would research the closest similar schools and calculate an average based on that data. One of the pricing strategies I would be using for the start up business is the sliding price strategy. This would allow students to enroll and have a payment plan established based on their financial support, be it their parents, financial aid, etc.Providing discou nts for hardship cases, and/or students that excelled in high school, or want to barter. ââ¬Å"A sliding price strategy is a method of moving prices in relation to demand,â⬠(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 148). The other pricing strategy would be price bundling, ââ¬Å"a type of pricing in which customers acquire a ââ¬Å"host of goods or servicesâ⬠along with the product they purchase, ââ¬Å"(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 152). This would be like offering specialized subjects as add-ons to courses as a bundle package. For instance, taking water color painting, and adding oil painting would be a bundled course. VIII. Harvest strategy I would actually do both long-term debt and equity financing, and here is why. With a new venture I would choose long-term debt in the beginning. This allows me to be in control of the business, and therefore if there is a profit great; if there is failure then it will only affect me. Also, the interest on the loan is tax-deductible. I would feel t errible if I asked for assistance from family and friends then lost their monies. Debt capital is divided into three categories: (1) current or short term, (2) intermediate term, and (3) long term. Short-term liabilities (debt) include borrowed money that must be repaid within the next 12 months; intermediate term refers to loan-payback periods from 1 to 10 years; and long-term debt is payable sometime beyond 10 years, depending on the loan terms,â⬠(Kuratko & Hornsby, 2009, p 171). Due to the large upfront money it will take to get my venture off the ground, having the ability to make payments over a long period of time is more feasible than trying to come up with it myself. Now once my business starts to show progress and is in the black for a historical period of time (1-5 years? ) that is when I would enlist investors. At that point in time I would assess a business strategy and see if the monies that are being invested should be applied to loans or used to grow the business . But at least at this point there would be a track record to show the investors why my business would be a good venture. ââ¬Å"Inherent dangers lurk in family business investments, however.Unrealistic expectations or misunderstood risks have destroyed many friendships and have ruined many family reunions. To avoid such problems, an entrepreneur must honestly present the investment opportunity and the nature of the risks involved to avoid alienating friends and family members if the business fails,â⬠(Zimmerer et el, 2008, p 468). â⬠? The Yellow Wallpaper 2 - Essay Example The lady never questioned her husbandââ¬â¢s decision and followed his instructions but only to experience a worst possible fate a human can ever imagine (Gilman, 1892). The story tells about how females are guided and literally ruled over by their husbands. The women have remained suppressed in all parts of the world as they were unable to take charge of the life that they had been blessed with by the God himself. Additionally, the choice made by the husband aggravated the issue because the wife fell into the belief that she was trapped into the room and her belief translated into a presence of woman who was trapped into the yellow wallpaper. The wife considered it as her duty to free the trapped woman as she cannot free herself. The will to help others had always remained a great motivational force for humans and the objective of freeing a woman in the wallpaper gave the sense of direction to the lady. Once she freed the woman in the picture then, she lost the purpose of life and therefore, she completely succumbed to her mental condition. The message of the story is simple and easy to understand, if only one is committed and willing to do that. The best way to help is to let the sufferer make his or her choices as freely as possible. The human is the most sophisticated piece of machinery ever built. People have a physical life and a psychological one as well. The apparent satisfaction does not mean that a person is contented from the inside. The meaningless compliance means that a pile of un-served needs and wants is gathering and it is usually the matter of time before a person becomes mentally impaired by carrying the burden in the inside. The wife was happy from the outside but she was sorrowful on the inside and finally, the sadness got better of the apparent happiness and she started doing what she wanted and what she can. The action was simple as it involved crawling around the room but it

Kristopher Scholl - Essay Example leaders have dazzling social intelligence, gusto for any change, and to crown it all, a vision that enables them to focus their sights on issues that really benefit the attention of the followers (Greenleaf & Spears, 1998). A higher authority is necessary for regulating and supervising other people as well as setting an example of a dedicated and a hard worker. Any effective leader should possess competence, courage, and compassion. Character as majorly discussed, is possibly the most significant characteristic a leader should have. An individualââ¬â¢s real character is who they happen to be when they are placed to face difficult scenarios. It is the morality and the decisions of a great leader that awards them the respectable character that other people seek to follow. Having character is essential for any leader since a leader requires that capability to see what others are unable to see, the needed sacrifices that should be made, even if it means that the sacrifices are of their own or a different individuals. Most of historical effective leaders are crowned charismatic; this may bring the need to define charisma, whether it is inborn or attained somewhere in life. At the same time if all charismatic leaders are generally effective. Basically, charismatic leaders are very skilled in their communication styles (Greenleaf & Spears, 1998). These are persons who are born verbally eloquent, at the same time they are able to communicate to most of their followers on an emotional, deep level. These are leaders who are capable of articulating a captivating or a compelling vision, and have the power to arouse very strong emotions in most of their followers. Charisma is basically a process. An interaction that takes place between the leader and the followers and the situation that calls out for the leader such as a need for change or settles a crisis. Most political leaders develop the needed skills to communicate to their followers or even convince the donors, this

Discussion board reply - Coursework Example Process control ensures maintenance of a loyal customer base through the quality of products and services that are offered by a company. Process control involves adhering strictly to rules that a company uses in production enabling the company to prevent potential costly mistakes (Shinskey, 2008). When a company fails to address a possible mistake in the production process, the burden is transferred to other processes such as marketing of the products. Process control ensures that a company does not divert from the objectives that it has in production (Albertson, 2007). The importance of the process control can also be seen in the effect that a mistake in the production process can cause to the image of a business. When there is no proper process control in the production process, poor quality goods are produced and this reduces the confidence that the consumers have in the company and the products that the company offers (Sen, 2008). All these factors as also brought out by the classmateââ¬â¢s post can be avoided through the application of process control. Process control mainly involves monitoring all the activities that are carried out in the company to ensure each activity is in done in accordance to set rules and regulations (Sen,

Marketing Communication - Essay Example The four departments are aerospace, electronic systems, technical systems and information systems. The aerospace department creates revenue of approximately $ 10 billion annually and it has a workforce of about 23000 employees who are highly skilled individuals in their areas of expertise (Northrop, 2012). The department is a major supplier of American manned and unmanned defense aircrafts, space systems and technological knowhow in the security sector involving aviation.Examples of air defense mechanism created by the company involve the global hawk aircrafts and the F-35 lighting 11 jets. The electronic systems department is responsible for the provision of advanced electronic system for commercial and civil use, and military defense. The company has the ability to supply highly innovative and complex electronic defense machineries in marine systems, airspace management, navigation, and precision and communication systems. The company also provides electronic logistical support to government institutions and commercial organizations. ... department provides services in the modernization of existing military, communication and civil infrastructure to various government agencies, civil organizations and federal agencies. The company has competitors who are equally innovative and financially superior. Its major competitors are General Dynamics Cooperation, Lockheed Martin Cooperation and the Boeing Company. Compared to its three major competitors, Northrop Grumman is performing poorly, both in terms of its share value and revenue generating capabilities (Nasdaq, 2012). For example, the net income of Boeing Company as of June 2012 amounted to $ 4.35 billion, as compared to Northrop which stood at $ 2.10 billion, a difference of $ 2.25 billion. General Dynamics made $ 2.5 billion while Lockheed Martin made $ 2.78 billion. These figures are higher than the profitability of Northrop Grumman. In terms of their share prices, Northrop Grumman performs dismally (Nasdaq, 2012). The current value of Northrop Grumman share price st ands at $ 59.3; this is far below the share price of Boeing which currently trades at $ 72.58, a difference of $13.28. The share prices of its two other competitors are higher with Lockheed Martin share price trading at $ 83.37 and that of general dynamics trading at $ 64.13 (Nasdaq, 2012). The share values are an indicator of how well the company is perceived by the society and of its economic performance. The low share price of Northrop as compared to its competitors is an indication that the company economic performance is far below that of its competitors. There are various opportunities presentable to the company for expansion of its services and profitability. The present war on terror presents the company with an opportunity to develop high technology weapons that can be used to

Macrowritten1 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Macrowritten1 - Essay Example Real GDP (adjusted) is based on the prices of the products and services produced in a year that have been adjusted with inflation and deflation to perfectly predict the decrease or increase in production for comparison of the economic development from year to year. It is calculated in relation to price index of a given particular year (Experimental Economics Centre, 2006). For economic policy makers, real GDP hold enhanced importance compared to the use of nominal GDP. The inflation and deflation need to be considered while calculating the exact outcome of the economic performance of a country in a given year. This will depict the actual growth or decline in the performance of the economy and would help in formulating plans for future developments of the economy. It will also help the government in preparation of the fiscal policy. GDP is calculated only for the gross count of products and services that are purchased and sold with no difference between transactions that sums up to the well being and those that diminishes it. It assumes that every economic contract adds to well being but actually it is not so. GDP overlooks everything that occurs outside the sphere of monetized exchanges despite its significant contribution to well being. The crucial household performance and the sector of volunteer services are completely neglected. The significant contribution of the elder care, childcare and other home based tasks and volunteer works in the community are not taken into consideration in the GDP as those do not involve monetary transactions. When the non-market economy declines and the function shifts to monetized sector, GDP represents such activities as economic advancement. There is a rise in GDP temporarily, but the debt needs to be repaid as it becomes a burden for the economy. The GDP breaches the essential accounting principles by treating the exhaustion of natural capital as income, rather than as the decrease of an asset.

MSA 522 - Essay Example According to Act Utilitarian of Jeremy Bentham, an action that results in the happiness of one and all is a good act. He said ââ¬Å"when choosing a course of action, one should always pick the one that will maximize happiness and minimize unhappiness for the greatest number of peopleâ⬠(Bentham from Rosenstand p.176). The actions, which result in maximum happiness for maximum number of people, are invariable good and therefore morally and ethically right. In the contemporary times, it becomes highly difficult because of the diverse ideologies and differing value system to satisfy large populace. Indeed, it is one of the crucial compulsions of the globalization that people should strive towards common goals of universal values. Misusing public funds by the vested interests (which may be managers in the public services) not only violate various stakeholdersââ¬â¢ trust but they also deprive the general public from the benefits of the various welfare schemes which depend on the efficient use of the funds. Hence, using the said philosophy, the managers would ensure efficient delivery of the goals and objectives of departments and

My Second - Problem Base Question (EU Law) Essay
My Second - Problem Base Question (EU Law) - Essay Example Arthur would have been compensated for the damage of à £100,000 of the cabbages field. Other dimension is the present situation that 00/1271/EC Directive has not been implemented yet. Brownings Ltd. should put up this situation as an accident that results in damage to Arthurââ¬â¢s fields as well as the premises of Brownings Ltd. By putting the case in such manner will prevent Brownings Ltd. to pay compensation to Arthur. Under this situation both parties has to move towards the insurance organizations for the damages incurred to them. By means of regard to the straight effect of directives, the European court of justice has detained in Marshall v. Southampton AHA that orders can only be imposed against the State since art 249 EC Treaty conveys that a instruction is obligatory upon each Member State to whom it is dealt; it does not present that it trusses persons.à Consequently until United Kingdom actually applies the directive it would be iniquitous to permit it to be imposed against non-governmental bodies.à Arthur is looking for implementing the Directive in opposition to Brownings. As it is provided in the case study that Brownings is a limited organization that have possession of a large chemical works.à If one applies the three Foster criteria that are provision of a government service; under the control of the State; and having exceptional powers; to it, as Brownings obviously is not providing a state service, so due to this reason it would not be an emanation of the State.à Though the European court of justice in Kampelmann has recommended that the Foster criteria may not be cumulative, and therefore offered one of the three criteria is fulfilled, the body will be an emanation of the State.à Conversely, this fraction of the judgment may well be wrong, and it is completely practicable that the three criteria are cumulative.à Yet if they are not cumulative, it is doubtful that

Lan Design Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Lan Design - Assignment Example The network is only meant for administrative purposes and specifically, it is designed for office staffs. CPA LAN is designed to achieve a number of business and operational objectives. To start with, the network is designed to provide a secure administrative and computing service for every department in the firm. Physically and functionally, the network is designed to be restricted from non-employees of the CPA firm; no outsider can gain access to the firmââ¬â¢s network thus it minimizes the risk of unauthorized access. Secondly, the network is meant for versatile processing of information. It will enable its users to process, retrieve and store texts in form of non-ASCII and ASCII, video, graphics and audio from all the connected computers in the firm. Lastly, the CPA firm LAN will combine all the capabilities and powers of various facilities across the organization so as to develop a collaborative medium which will enable the users of the network to combine skill and ideas rega rdless of their locations in the building (Campbell, 1995). Moreover, the primary users of this LAN will be 6 administrators, 6 secretaries, 10 members from the department of curriculum development, 8 members from the human resource department, 6 members from the finance department and 3 members from the computer and technology department. All the remaining workers will be secondary users of the network in a way that they will be receiving information which is produced or rather extracted from the network; they will not directly access the network. The assumption of this design is that the firm will have a firewall to protect all its relevant information from getting into and leaking from the network. Requirements of the Network Data type: The type of data to be served by this network will comprise of accounting information, bulletins, personal profiles, reports and web pages. Most of the data will be stored in non-ASCII and ASCII formats. Sources of data: The data will be developed and used at all points or stations of the network. It will be created by software applications which are compatible with Microsoft Windows 2007; primarily Microsoft Office 2007 (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint), Dream Weaver, Photoshop, Media Player and Notepad. Number of users at various levels: From the major departmental offices, administration, human resource, finance and accounting, curriculum development and computer and technology extension, thirty one regular primary users will be served. The priority levels to be supported by the network include management, user and background. They range from top, medium to bottom respectively. A crucial point to note here is that the three levels are not corresponding to administrative levels in the firm; they are the LAN service levels. This implies that the network management procedures will receive the top most priority, followed by most network procedures which will receive the medium priority and finally few procedures w ill receive a low priority. A point to note here is that the CPA LAN management will be consuming smaller amounts of bandwidth available; they will enjoy an identical support (Hricik, 2008). Requirements for speed transmission: The CPA LAN will be transparent to all the users. This means that all the remotely executed procedures, files transfers and applications should appear to operate quickly. An average of 25mbps per user

Investigating a Crime Scene Essay Example for Free
Investigating a Crime Scene Essay On TV shows like CSI, viewers get to watch as investigators find and collect evidence at the scene of a crime, making blood appear as if by magic and swabbing every mouth in the vicinity. Many of us believe we have a pretty good grip on the process, and rumor has it criminals are getting a jump on the good guys by using the tips they pick up from these shows. But does Hollywood get it right? Do crime scene investigators interview suspects and catch the bad guys, or is their job all about collecting physical evidence? In this paper, Iââ¬â¢ll examine how a crime scene investigation really takes place. When working a crime scene there are many steps that must take place in order for any investigation to hold up in court. A proper investigation can take hours, but the end result can lead to a conviction of the guilty and justice for victimââ¬â¢s families. The first officer at the crime scene should do everything they can to keep all evidence in its original state. The crime scene must be blocked off immediately to avoid any contamination or loss of evidence. Boundaries should be established for each area of the scene that needs to be secluded. This will include any paths of entry or exits and areas where evidence has been discarded or located. All areas of the crime scene should be blocked off using tape, ropes, or traffic cones. If the crime took place indoors, a single room can be blocked off depending on the place of the crime and where it occurred. Police barricades and guards can help with securing the scene as well. This is a good way to monitor the area to make sure no unwanted people get through and cause loss of evidence. This will include officers that are not involved in the case, neighbors and the family of the victim. Securing the crime scene must be done in a timely manner and all persons entering the scene should be recorded, and times of the entry should be taken as well. Before anyone can enter the scene, the responding officer must first establish a walk way. This is done to ensure that no evidence is being touched and is out of the way before walking into the scene. This will include investigators or medical examiners that need to get to any victims that may be injured. Once the crime scene has been blocked off and secured, the investigators will process the area. At this time a strategy is put into place. This will start the examination of the area and documentation of all evidence at the scene. A walk through of the scene will take place by the lead investigator to establish how the scene was entered and exited at the time that the crime took place. Once the points of entry are established, the investigator will find the center of the scene using the path that the first officer established. A crime scene is three dimensional so that when making their way to the center of the crime scene, evidence will be located. It is the investigators responsibility to photograph and document these items as they are seen. There are many questions that will need to be answered during the investigation such as but not limited to: did this crime involve violence, or are there any hazardous conditions that they should be aware of? The scene should be looked over as if trying to put a puzzle together. Looking around at objects in the crime scene can tell a whole lot as to the time the accident occurred or if objects seem like they are missing. There are two categories a crime scene can fall under; one is a primary crime scene where the crime occurred or a secondary crime scene where evidence was taken to and is now a part of the crime scene. A command center needs to be put into place outside the crime scene. This is where the investigators receive their assignments, store the equipment that will be needed or where they gather to discuss or go over the case. Tasks are assigned to all of the investigators which will ensure that all aspects of the area are covered. Tasks include locating, processing, accessing, photographing and sketching the evidence at the scene. Searching a crime scene and how a crime investigation is carried out depends on the size and area of the scene being investigated. The different kind of crime that was committed can have a great toll on how the investigation is carried out as well. When doing a search of the crime scene, different kinds of flash or illumination are used to show fingerprints, handprints or other things that may be gathered as evidence. There are different patterns in which a crime scene is investigated or searched. Each pattern depends on the scene and what kind of evidence is suspected to be found at the scene. This could include: a line or strip search where two investigators walk in straight lines across the crime scene and search for evidence, a grid search where investigators form a grid throughout the scene making overlapping lines, a spiral search where an investigator works in a spiral motion from the outer part of the scene or vice versa, a wheel ray search which is done by a group of investigators that move from the boundary of the crime scene and work their way to the middle of the scene, or a quadrant or zone search where the crime is divided into sections and is split up between investigators and divided again to search more thoroughly through that section. When searching a crime scene at night difficulties will come up due to lighting. Boundaries of the scene are hard to see when trying to locate evidence. The search of evidence is determined by each crime scene, because every crime is different in its own way. Locating evidence includes footprints, weapons, blood spatter, trace fibers or hairs. When an investigator locates evidence everything should be recorded. Exact location in notes, photos and sketches must be done, and all evidence must be marked with an evidence marker once it is recorded. A search will end when all evidence is located. Once a decision has been made that the investigation has come to a close, the team will conduct a final survey. This survey will include an overview of the scene and all evidence is collected and bagged. Taking notes at a crime scene begins the moment an investigator gets a call. All notes must be specific. Notes should begin with all the information of the person who has called in, the time the call was placed and all of the information that is given about the crime, as well as the assigned case number that is given. When an investigator arrives at the scene, date, time and all persons present must be recorded. All notes should be in detail, and all movements that are taken should be documented. The lead investigator will do a walkthrough of the scene and at this time notes are taken with details of the condition of the scene. All notes taken should be in blue or black ink. Notes are very important to the investigation, and all notes should be taken at the scene and not left up to memory. This ensures that all information is recorded and nothing is left out. Notes should include all documentation of the victims, witnesses, evidence collected, tasks being performed, and when and how an object is packaged. There should be no task, detail or movement left out when taking notes at a crime scene. Photographing a crime scene is extremely important in a crime scene investigation, and should be of high quality and very clear. These photos will be used in court, so when taking the photos you need to keep in mind that the person or persons viewing the photos should be able to understand where the photos were taken and should be able to tell the story through them. The overall area of the scene should first be photographed such as street signs, street lights, addresses, and identifying objects. Photos should be taken in a clockwise direction to prevent any information from being left out. Different lenses should be used when photographing different parts of the scene as well as different illuminations, flashes and filters. The first photo should consist of a photography log that includes that case number, type of scene, date, location of scene, type of camera used, photographers name and title. Photos should be of the scene before it has been altered in any way. The photos should include the area that the crime took place, and areas where other acts occurred. Pictures should be taken from the outside of the scene working towards the middle of the scene. The photographer must be consistent when working through the scene as this will ensure that all evidence is photographed from all angles and nothing is left out. Photos should include: overview photographs which consist of the entire scene and surrounding area. These photos include all exits and entries, and should start from the outside of the scene and in all angles. And medium range photographs which show smaller areas of the crime scene. These photos should be taken with evidence markers. Sketching the crime scene is done after all notes and photographs are taken of the scene. A sketch will show the layout of the area or house where the crime was committed, as well as where the evidence was located. It is used to back up all notes and photographs already taken. All aspects of a crime scene will be shown in court and used to convict the guilty; therefore, it is extremely important that all steps of the investigation are followed exactly and with as much detail as possible to ensure that justice can be served.
